On Sunday I found myself in the basement of St. Patrick Cathedral, surrounded by about 50, 8-year-old girls looking for first communion dresses. I have shot kids in the past, they will normally flock to me, hoping to have their photograph in the newspaper. The challenge was getting them to forget about me and be natural again. This time I had almost no problem getting them to ignore me. Perhaps the prospect of buying a new dress for such an occasion was more interesting than the camera guy that looks like he needs coffee.
Looking back it would have been a neat perspective to shoot the girls in their new dresses, using lights and a background, giving it a fashion look. Posed, not posed, I have no idea what I want sometimes. Next time.
