315/365 Tourists At The DMZ

315/365: From the bus tourists catch a glimpse of North Korea as they pass through the Joint Security Area. The area between North and South Korea is called the De-Militarized Zone ironically considering that the border is the most militarized in the world.

Across the entire peninsula of Korea runs a 4km strip of land that hasn't been touched by humans since 1953. Now it's a peaceful animal sanctuary, but on each side is a country locked in a staring contest with the other. This standoff can't be better understood anywhere other than the JSA. Here in a tiny blue building leaders from the North and South meet with each other face to face, inside of which people can cross into the northern side of the border. June 22, 2013
